A Quiet Place: Day One (2024) is an American apocalyptic horror film. It was written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, based on a story he conceived with John Krasinski. It is the third installment in the A Quiet Place film series, serving as a spin-off and prequel.
Samira “Sam” is a terminally ill cancer patient living in a hospice near New York City with her cat, Frodo. During an outing to Manhattan, hostile aliens attack the city. Sam wakes up in a puppet theater with other survivors. The military warns everyone to stay silent and hidden.
Sam tries to escape with Frodo but gets separated from him. Eric, an English law student, finds Frodo, and they reunite with Sam. They decide to head to an evacuation point but end up in a flooded subway, where they narrowly escape a creature.
Eric and Sam take refuge in a church, and Eric finds medication for Sam. They bond over Sam’s memories of her father. They see boats evacuating people, and Sam distracts the creatures so Eric and Frodo can escape. Sam sacrifices herself to save them, leaving a note for Eric to take care of Frodo. In the end, Sam walks into a deserted street, smiling as she listens to music, knowing a creature is behind her.
