Thirty years after the Wonder World incident, Axel Foley remains a Detroit police detective. During a chase, he causes significant city damage, which leads to the forced retirement of his friend, Deputy Chief Jeffrey Friedman. Consequently, Jeffrey urges Axel to reconnect with his estranged daughter, Jane, in LA, who faces danger. Jane represents Enriquez, framed for an undercover officer’s murder. Meanwhile, Axel’s friend Billy Rosewood, now a PI, warns Axel about the danger before the cartel kidnaps him.
Axel then heads to Beverly Hills and discovers Rosewood’s office ransacked. He learns that Jane’s ex-boyfriend, Detective Bobby Abbott, and old friend John Taggart are involved. Furthermore, Axel distrusts Captain Cade Grant, who seems corrupt. After Jane bails him out, Axel convinces her to help investigate. Subsequently, they discover Grant’s team is involved in cartel activities, leading to an ambush and Abbott’s suspension. As a result, Axel, Jane, and Abbott find evidence linking Grant to the cartel.
Later, they learn from Chalino, a cartel member, that Grant protects the cartel and a drug shipment is imminent. Consequently, Grant’s team frames and arrests Axel and Abbott, but they manage to escape. With Taggart’s eventual help, they plan to rescue Jane, who is kidnapped. Eventually, a firefight ensues at the cartel mansion, resulting in Grant’s death and Jane’s rescue. During the fight, Axel suffers injuries but reconciles with Jane. Finally, with the recovered evidence, they cleared Enriquez of charges. Axel, Rosewood, and Taggart reunite, hinting at Axel’s possible move to LA.
