Descendants: The Rise of Red (2024) is a musical fantasy film directed by Jennifer Phang and written by Dan Frey and Ru Sommer. Disney Channel produced the movie, which is the fourth in the Descendants franchise. It serves as a spin-off of the first three films and follows “Descendants: The Royal Wedding.”
According to the movie story, ten years after the events of Descendants, Mal, Ben, Evie, and Jay leave Auradon to form alliances with other kingdoms, making Uma the new headmistress of Auradon Prep as Fairy Godmother becomes President of Auradon University. Uma invites Princess Red, the rebellious daughter of the Queen of Hearts, to Auradon Prep, despite Fairy Godmother’s concerns. Red, longing to escape her oppressive mother, steals a time-travel watch from her tutor, Maddox. Meanwhile, Chloe Charming prepares to attend Auradon Prep.
At Auradon, the Queen of Hearts launches a coup, taking everyone prisoner and forcing Red to sentence Cinderella to beheading. Red and Chloe use Maddox’s watch to travel to the past to prevent the coup. They enroll in the academy, discovering that the Queen of Hearts and Cinderella were once friends. They realize the VKs plan to turn Bridget (the future Queen of Hearts) into a monster and decide to steal the spellbook to stop it.
Through various trials and teamwork, Red and Chloe steal the book, preventing the prank that would have made Bridget cruel. They return to the present, where the Queen of Hearts is now kind-hearted. Auradon celebrates its new beginning, but Uma hints that the story isn’t over yet.
