Despicable Me 2 is a 2013 American animated comedy film produced by Illumination Entertainment. The film is a sequel to Despicable Me (2010). A mysterious aircraft steals the PX-41 mutagen from a secret Arctic laboratory. Subsequently, Silas Ramsbottom, director of the Anti-Villain League (AVL), sends agent Lucy Wilde to recruit former supervillain Gru. Initially, Gru refuses; however, after his friend Doctor Nefario quits, Gru eventually agrees to help. Consequently, Gru and Lucy station themselves at a shopping mall, operating a cupcake store as their front.
Gru suspects Eduardo Pérez, a Mexican restaurant owner, of being the supposedly dead supervillain “El Macho.” Despite a break-in at Eduardo’s restaurant yielding no evidence, Gru’s daughters believe Gru will fall in love with Lucy, though he denies it. Meanwhile, while investigating other leads, they find traces of the mutagen in wig merchant Floyd Eaglesan’s shop, leading to Floyd’s arrest and the closure of the investigation. Heartbroken, Gru learns that the AVL has reassigned Lucy to Australia.
At Eduardo’s Cinco de Mayo party, Gru confirms Eduardo is El Macho, who has kidnapped and mutated Gru’s minions using the PX-41 mutagen. Subsequently, El Macho offers Gru a partnership, but Gru refuses. Consequently, El Macho kidnaps Lucy, prompting Gru to infiltrate his fortress. Gru’s Minions, disguised, help cure the mutated Minions with an antidote created by Nefario. Eventually, Gru defeats El Macho and rescues Lucy from a rocket heading into a volcano.
Ultimately, Lucy returns Gru’s affections, and after 147 dates, they get married. Lucy subsequently becomes the mother to Gru’s three adopted daughters, Margo, Edith, and Agnes.
