Despicable Me 4 (2024) is an American animated comedy film produced by Illumination and distributed by Universal Pictures. It was directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda. Undercover Anti-Villain League (AVL) agent Gru attends his high school reunion, where he encounters his rival, Maxime Le Mal, who has enhanced himself with cockroach parts. Initially, Gru has Maxime arrested, but Maxime escapes with the help of his girlfriend Valentina and subsequently reveals a plan to turn Gru’s son, Gru Jr., into a cockroach hybrid. Consequently, the AVL relocates Gru’s family to a new town for safety and selects some Minions to become Mega-Minions, though the initiative is soon halted.
In their new town, Gru’s neighbor Poppy recognizes him and therefore blackmails him into helping her steal their high school’s mascot, Lenny. This theft leads Maxime to Gru’s location. While Gru and Lucy are out, the school’s principal interrogates their daughters, prompting Gru and Lucy to return home and fight him off. Subsequently, Maxime kidnaps Gru Jr., transforming him into a human-cockroach hybrid. With Poppy’s help, Gru confronts Maxime and eventually frees Gru Jr. from his brainwashing. Ultimately, Maxime is defeated by Gru Jr., the Mega-Minions, and other animals.
Gru’s family returns home, where Dr. Nefario reverses Gru Jr.’s transformation. Later, Gru visits Maxime in prison to reconcile, and they perform “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” for the inmates, including former villains.
