In Bruges (2008) is a black comedy-drama crime thriller film directed and written by Martin McDonagh in his feature-length debut.
Inexperienced hitman Ray accidentally kills a young boy while shooting a priest. Their employer, Harry, sends Ray and his mentor Ken to Bruges to await further instructions. Ray dislikes Bruges, while Ken finds it charming. Ray becomes involved with Chloë, a local drug dealer, leading to various complications, including a confrontation with Chloë’s ex-boyfriend Eirik.
Harry orders Ken to kill Ray as punishment for the accidental killing. When Ken finds Ray about to commit suicide out of guilt, he stops him and tells him to leave Bruges. Harry, furious at Ken’s disobedience, arrives in Bruges to handle the situation himself. A confrontation ensues, resulting in Ken’s death and a chase between Ray and Harry.
Harry mistakenly believes he has killed another child and commits suicide. Seriously injured, Ray reflects on his actions and the possibility of redemption as they take him to the hospital.
