Red Notice (2021) is an American action comedy film written and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber. It is their third collaboration, following “Central Intelligence” (2016) and “Skyscraper” (2018). In the film, an FBI agent reluctantly teams up with a famous art thief to catch an even more notorious thief.
In the 1st century BC, Roman general Mark Antony gave Egyptian queen Cleopatra three jeweled eggs as a wedding gift. Two eggs were found in 1907, but the third remained lost.
According to the movie, in the present day, FBI profiler John Hartley investigates the theft of one egg from a museum in Rome. The thief, Nolan Booth, escapes but is caught by Hartley in Bali. However, Booth’s rival, Sarah “The Bishop” Black, steals the egg and frames Hartley, who is imprisoned with Booth in Russia. Hartley convinces Booth to team up and catch Black. They escape prison and go to Valencia to steal the second egg from arms dealer Sotto Voce.
They fight Black for the egg but learn she works with Voce. Black betrays Voce and heads to Egypt, thinking the third egg is there. Booth reveals the egg is actually in Argentina. They find it in a secret bunker, but Black arrives to steal it. Interpol interrupts them, but Hartley, Booth, and Black escape.
Booth learns Hartley is actually a conman working with Black. They planned the heist together and used Booth. They deliver the three eggs to an Egyptian billionaire, then double-cross him, leading to his arrest by Interpol.
Six months later, Booth finds Hartley and Black in Sardinia. He tells them Interpol froze their money and is coming for them. He proposes a new heist, needing three people. They agree, and the trio starts planning their next heist at the Louvre in Paris.
