Tangled (2010) tells the story of Rapunzel, a lost young princess with magical long blonde hair who yearns to leave her secluded tower. She accepts the aid of an intruder, the outlaw Flynn Rider, to take her out into the world that she has never seen.
A drop of sunlight creates a magic flower with healing powers, which an old woman named Gothel uses to stay young. Soldiers from the kingdom of Corona find the flower and use it to save their queen, who gives birth to Rapunzel. Rapunzel’s hair contains the flower’s magic, so Gothel kidnaps her and hides her in a tower. Every year, the king and queen release sky lanterns on Rapunzel’s birthday, hoping she’ll return.
On her 18th birthday, Rapunzel asks to leave the tower to see the lights, but Gothel refuses. Meanwhile, Flynn Rider steals Rapunzel’s crown and hides in her tower. Rapunzel captures Flynn and strikes a deal with him: she’ll return the crown if he takes her to see the lanterns. They embark on an adventure, escaping from royal guards and meeting new friends along the way.
Gothel discovers Rapunzel’s absence and teams up with Flynn’s former partners to find her. Flynn and Rapunzel grow close and eventually fall in love. Gothel tricks Rapunzel into thinking Flynn betrayed her, causing Rapunzel to return to the tower with Gothel. Flynn escapes from prison with the help of new friends and rushes to rescue Rapunzel.
At the tower, Flynn finds Rapunzel chained by Gothel, who stabs him. To save Rapunzel, Flynn cuts her magical hair, causing Gothel to age rapidly and turn to dust. Rapunzel’s tear, still imbued with magic, heals Flynn. Rapunzel reunites with her parents, and the kingdom celebrates. Eventually, Rapunzel and Flynn marry.
