In New York City, an actor is mysteriously killed while inspecting the set of a supernatural horror film, “The Georgetown Project.” The film’s director casts aging, alcoholic actor Anthony Miller as a priest. Miller’s daughter, Lee, who is grieving her mother’s death, works as his personal assistant. Miller, a sexual abuse survivor, struggles with his mental health on and off the set, experiencing flashbacks and exhibiting bizarre behavior, which concerns Lee. She befriends Blake, a TV actress, and they seek help from Father Conor, a Catholic priest and film consultant.
Miller’s behavior worsens, leading to his replacement by Joe, who is later killed on set. Miller attacks Lee and jumps out of a window. Father Conor attempts an exorcism on set but is paralyzed by the now-possessed Miller. Lee burns Miller with a crucifix, breaking the paralysis. Conor offers himself to the demon but is possessed instead. Miller stabs Conor with the crucifix, and together with Lee, they use the exorcism rite to defeat the demon. Later, Miller and Lee reflect on their improved relationship, and Lee begins working on a film script.
